Tree Services in Orange County

Orange County is one of the most beautiful places in the country, and one of the most desirable places to live. It's not uncommon for people to travel to Southern California for the first time and make remarks like, "Oh wow, I had no idea California was so green!" And that's what we're here for--to take care of all that green.

Many people in Orange County have great landscaping services. Many have them taken care of through various HOAs, but others have their own landscaping services that come and regularly take care of their property. But finding a skilled, dependable tree care provider isn't quite the same. Specialized tree care services such as tree trimming, tree pruning, and tree removal should be handled by certified tree care professionals.

Tree Trimming FAQs

Here are some of the most frequently asked questions that we've gotten from our clients over the years.

Have some additional questions about our tree services?  Call us today at (949) 264-5444.

  • Why should I prune my trees?

There are lots of great reasons! It may be logical to think that while a tree is growing, there's not much you can do about the way it grows or where it goes, but that's not exactly the case. The way you influence the way a tree grows is by pruning it. If done properly, the tree can be "taught" to grow in a certain way that is best for the structural integrity of the tree. This means the tree will have the best chance to grow into a large, beautiful, majestic tree that you'll marvel at day after day.

  • How much does tree trimming cost?

There are many factors to be considered when determining the cost of a tree trimming service. The extent of the trimming required, the number of trees, and any potential hazards on the property will all have to be factored in. If you're looking to get some trees trimmed, please fill out the contact form at the top of the page with some details about your project, or give us a call so that we can get some information from you that will help us generate your free estimate for tree care services.

  • My tree is leaning. Is it going to fall?

If you've noticed a drastic change in your tree's "posture" in a relatively short amount of time, we know how concerning that can be. Here in Southern California where the Santa Ana winds roll through and rough everything up once in a while, leaning trees are very common. After intense winds, trees that are not strong enough to stand up on their own won't be able to stand up right any longer. This is one of the more serious problems to have, especially if the tree is within close proximity to any property that could be damaged. If that is the case for you, please call us right away at (949) 979-5151.

  • I've heard the terms "reducing", "topping" and "pollarding." What do those mean?

Reducing - A good way to remember this is by remembering that in this case, branches are shortened to "reduce" the height and spread of a tree. Here in Tustin, there are some homes with incredible views. But sometimes trees can grow to the point where those views get obstructed. Instead of removing the tree, the tree can simply be reduced to restore the beautiful view.

Topping - You'll usually be able to recognize a tree that has been topped because...well, it'll be ugly. Topping is basically when a tree is cut down to the stubs on all sides, Topping is not something that arborists find acceptable. The tree will be cut down to the stubs on all sides. You might be wondering why this is ever done in the first place. Sometimes it's done in an effort to reduce the size of the tree (though improperly.) But this always backfires because the tree goes into what you could consider a "panic mode," where many weak, but fast-growing sprouts shoot out from the stubs. In a period of five years, a topped tree will actually end up growing larger (and uglier) than a tree that was properly pruned or reduced in the first place.

Pollarding - Pollarding is like topping, except done right. Major branches will be drastically cut back in order to contain the tree's size. This is a process that should begin while the tree is still young, and continue once every two years for the entire lifespan of the tree (which will hopefully be a long, long time!)

  • How will I know if a tree needs to be removed?

Good question. The most obvious reason would be if the tree is sick or dead. An unhealthy tree will show noticeable trunk decay or branches that are visibly dead or dying. Also, if you notice that the sidewalk or street near your street is cracking or being pushed up from underneath, it could be that the tree root system has become intrusive and needs to be removed. Included bark, or "ingrown" bark is another sign. If the tree is leaning in the direction of a street, electric poles or even your roof, that's also a sign that a tree may need to be removed.

Emergency Tree Services in Tustin

It probably seems weird to see the words "emergency" and "tree" sharing the same sentence. But you may be surprised by how many urgent situations result from issues involving trees. Especially in our area in Tustin where we have so many incredible, mature trees. These contribute to the unique aesthetic of the city, but when trees grow old, and get very large and tall, they actually become very vulnerable to problems if they aren't diligently cared for.

When you think of an emergency tree situation, a fallen tree might be the first thing that comes to mind. But if a tree has fallen in a safe spot, it's probably safe to stay there for a while. We know it's an eyesore, but when a tree crew has to drop everything that they're doing to tend to an emergency situation, that often results in a higher cost. So if a tree has fallen in a place where it's not threatening any property such as a home, vehicle,  or electrical poles/power lines, it might be best to schedule a normal tree service to cut up and remove the fallen tree. The difference in price could be hundreds of dollars. But once again, if the tree is posing a danger or a threat to property or people in the area, the best thing to do would be to contact us.

We typically see a surge in emergency tree services after the Santa Ana winds blow through. Those winds can really do a number on trees, and they tend to be very busy times for Orange County Tree Care Company. In these cases, we ask for your patience as our crew works as quickly, efficiently and diligently as possible. Each one of our customers is important to us, but we want to work as safely as possible for them and for the members of our crew, which might result in longer wait times to schedule an appointment. And if we are running late for a tree care service (due to unexpected delays performing another service) we will always contact you to let you know, or if worst comes to worst, reschedule you for the next available appointment. We hate ever having to do that, but just know that we will give your project the same amount of care and attention to detail when we arrive. We never cut corners to save time!

Why Choose Orange County Tree Care Company

Licensed and Insured

One of the most important things to look for in a tree care company is their credentials. The professionals with Orange County Tree Care Company pride ourselves on safety and integrity, which means proper licensing and insurance was never an option, but an outright necessity. It is imperative to us that both our crewmembers and our clients are protected as much as possible, so you can rest assured that we've got you covered.

Minimal Business Disruption

If you are a business owner who needs tree services done on your property, you may be concerned that the project might interfere. We completely understand. It will require the proper planning and communication, but we assure you that we will schedule a time to conduct the service that will result in minimal business disruption. We'll do what we do best so that you can get back to doing what you do best as soon as possible.

Competitive Prices

If you're finding yourself in need of a tree trimming service, you might be envisioning your dollars flying out of the window. Well, we know that money doesn't grow on trees (or you'd probably be doing the trimming yourself.) We pride ourselves on our ability to provide top-notch services at affordable prices in line with, or better than, other tree service companies in the area. If you show us that you've found a better quote out there, we will do our best to beat it. Unfortunately, there are some cases where a competitor will quote a certain price, only to show up at the customer's property and demand something higher. You have our word that we would never do so. We stick to our estimates. But we'll be completely honest with you: there are extremely rare cases where a discovery is made once the project is underway, that was not foreseeable from the initial inspection. If such a discovery requires any adjustment in the cost of the service, we will give you clear explanations and proof to justify them. We will also provide alternative options if possible, to save you as much as possible on any associated costs.
